Past, Future

The past is in front of me
For me to look upon as I please.
The past is in front of me
Because it is never gone.
The past is behind me
For me to no longer look upon.
The past is behind me
Because it is already gone.
The future is behind me
Running to me to be seen.
The future is behind me
Because I have not yet seen.
The future is in front of me
Running toward me to see.
The future is in front of me
Because I have to see.
If I were the lizard or the insect
Who's eyes are in front and behind;
The past and the future would
Always be inside of me,
Neither in front nor behind me.
They would be equal, the same,
Inseparable, with no concept of time;
Just as they are now.
